PLAINCHANT:
AN INTRODUCTION

During this two-month approachable and insightful online course, participants will examine the history, performance practice, and pedagogy of chant. The material will be structured into a series of sung exercises, readings, lectures, and listening assignments. Additionally, each student will have an opportunity for one-on-one online conference time with instructors for singing assessments and questions.
This course will be taught by Isabella Burns, co-author of the acclaimed text “Discovering Chant” with James Whitbourn and James Jordan and published by GIA Publications. James Jordan will guest lecture during the course, and enrollment is open to participants with all levels of experience in chant. An authority on the performance of Gregorian chant, Isabella Burns holds degrees in sacred music from Westminster Choir College and The University of Notre Dame. She has led classes in chant at The Choral Institute of Oxford and Westminster Choir College.
